Veteran forward Jack Gunston features among three inclusions ahead of Hawthorn's match with North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.

The 32-year-old was a stand-out in the VFL with Box Hill last week, booting two goals, recording 17 disposals and nine marks while playing across several roles.

Harry Morrison and Jai Serong feature among the other ins, while Josh Ward, Max Ramsden and Sam Butler have been omitted.

McCartney said Gunston was a welcome addition to the side.

"Over recent weeks, Jack has shown at VFL level that he is capable of playing in a number of different positions," McCartney said.

"I think all Hawks fans will enjoying seeing Jack play at AFL level again."

McCartney added that it was also pleasing to welcome Morrison back in the side for his second game of the season.

"Harry brings the balance of both experience and a proven ability to perform at AFL level," McCartney said.

"He is also a player who gives good leadership to our young group."

Lastly, McCartney said Serong's inclusion was rewarding following his strong form at Box Hill in the opening rounds.

"We've really liked seeing Jai's development over his two seasons at the club," McCartney said.

"He definitely has earned his opportunity to play at the top level and we look forward to seeing what he can bring to the group."
