Captain James Sicily, defender Jack Scrimshaw and midfielder James Worpel will all need to get through training later in the week to be available for selection against St Kilda on Saturday night at Marvel Stadium.

As reported on Tuesday afternoon, young gun Josh Weddle has been sidelined after suffering bone stress in his back, with High Performance Manager Peter Burge providing more context around the injury below.

Burge also provided an update on Bodie Ryan's clavicle injury and Will Day's foot injury in this week's injury update.

Jack Scrimshaw - hamstring (test)

"He fully trained on Saturday and fully trained today. We expect him to train again on Thursday so it's looking really positive for this weekend."

James Sicily - hip/ abdominal (test)

"Similar to Scrimshaw, he fully trained on the weekend. We got some great volume out in training off the back of modified training last week. We did all of our session today and we expect him to fully train again on Thursday and then we'll make a decision on Thursday around his availability this weekend."

James Worpel - quad cork (test)

"He's tracking really well. He trained fully today and we expect he'll fully train Thursday and be available this weekend. We got him back into some training last week in our main session. He'd been out for a period of time with this severe corky. To give some context to that, we had to have it drained twice over a fortnight. In the initial incident, there was a burst blood vessel which contributed to the severe bleeding of the cork. There's some history of these with other players in the past couple of years where it takes a bit longer than you would expect and this one certainly did. Just given the amount of pooling and bleeding in his quad and what we had to have done to drain it and then there was the case of then being able to resume some form of conditioning and training. We were back and able to do some training last week and then on the weekend, he had a really good session last Saturday and that confirmed we were on the right track to resume full football training this week. We expect him to play this weekend."

Bodie Ryan - clavicle (2-4 weeks)

"(His rehab) is going beautifully, he's conditioning really well. As I mentioned last week, he's not into contact training yet but getting much closer. We're looking at Round 19 of AFL, which I think is Round 17 of the VFL, as his return. He'll be missing two more games then returning in the third week to match play."

Will Day - foot (3-5 weeks)

"He's tracking well. He joined in training today and did two drills in our session today and did some conditioning off the back of that as well so we're now at the stage where we're building his participation in drills. That will be carefully done over the next three weeks with the view of the Round 20 AFL game being the week he returns to match play."

Josh Weddle - back (TBC)

"Josh post-game flagged that he had some back soreness and was quite sore during the game, which came on quite quickly. We certainly didn't have any warning of this prior to the game. We sent him for scans yesterday and that's shown that he has some bone stress in his back so that means he's going to miss a little bit of time now. We're going to have to de-load for a short period of time and then reassess towards the later part of the season. There's some optimism there that we could possibly be returning later in the season but in the short term, we need to de-load and let that settle, like with all other young athletes who can be vulnerable to this type of injury. Josh has played 57 games straight since he's debuted and he's a high work-rate player. The plan is to get him right and then we'll look forward, plan ahead and hopefully return to some match play.
