Box Hill Hawks’ VFLW winning streak came to an end on the weekend, falling to an in-form Collingwood Magpies side by 11 points at Box Hill City Oval on Saturday. The Hawks finished strong but couldn’t close the gap, going down 3.5 (23) to 4.10 (34).
Collingwood looked in control for most of the match, leading at every break. However as we’ve seen throughout the year, Box Hill mounted a late push, kicking two final-quarter goals to give themselves a chance. But the gap proved too much, and the Magpies held on for the win.
Box Hill got their goal kicking underway with club debutant Emma Juneja slotting her first goal in the brown and gold. The much-needed final quarter goals came through Matilda Van Berkel, who capped off a strong performance with 14 touches and Jess Matin, who continued her red-hot goal-kicking form. Ruby Murdoch was another standout, finishing as our leading ball-winner with 17 disposals.
The Hawks winning streak has come to an end, bringing their record to 7-3 and dropping them to third on the ladder. They’ll look to bounce back on Sunday, July 6th, when they return home to face the Sandringham Zebras.
