HAWTHORN skipper Luke Hodge’s amazing goal from the second quarter of Saturday’s win over Western Bulldogs has been nominated for Goal of the Year.
From the centre bounce, Hodge stole the footy from Ryan Griffen’s boot by simultaneously smothering the kick and gathering it before taking six steps to steady and launch a 65m bomb from the centre square of Aurora Stadium.
The footy needed to bounce only once, in the middle of the goal square before sliding through for one of the season’s most miraculous goals.
Hodge’s play had all of Australia talking and unofficially announcing it as the season’s best goal.
