At the 2013 National and Rookie drafts, Hawthorn welcomed eight new players to the Club, with three selected to join the primary list and four to the rookie list.

Over the Christmas period, hawthornfc.com.au is giving you the chance to get to know the Club’s new players on both a football and personal level.

Getting to know: Dayle Garlett (Primary list, National Draft pick 38)

What kind of player are you: I’m an outside midfielder with good use of the footy who can also play on the half forward line and run up the ground and kick a few goals.

What are your strengths: I’ve got good speed and skill execution by foot.

What can you work on: Probably the defensive side of things.

Team supported growing up: Hawthorn

Childhood or current sporting hero (non-AFL): I don’t have one.

AFL hero: When I was younger probably Andrew McLeod but probably since a few years ago, Sam Mitchell and the way Stephen Hill plays his footy.

Player you believe you play like most: I’ve never compared myself to anyone but always watched Sam Mitchell and Stephen Hill closely.

Favourite food: Pasta. Fettuccine Carbonara.

Favourite meal: Not sure, I’ve got lots!

What is your pump-up song before games: Probably Will Sparks – Ah Yeah

Favourite band or performer: None.

Best band or performer you’ve seen live: Probably the best I’ve been to was Swedish House Mafia.

Favourite TV show: Probably Two and a Half Men or Breaking Bad.

Favourite character in a TV show and why: Charlie from Two and a Half Men, he’s just funny.

Do you have any hobbies: I always go down to the park and play basketball and chilling with friends.

What is your favourite thing to do when you’re at home: Lying in bed with the phone.

Favourite movie and why: Don’t have one.

Ideal holiday destination: I’ve always wanted to go to Hawaii.

Best country or city you have visited and why: I haven’t been out of Australia, so probably Melbourne.

Chocolate or vanilla: Chocolate
