Hawthorn Football Club has been involved in a partnership program with the Katherine region since 2009, with players and support staff visiting the area 13 times over the years. Each visit sees the Club connect with AFLNT, local schools and communities as well as the Big River Hawks, which is Hawthorn’s affiliated Club in the area.

Shaun Burgoyne is currently in Katherine with Strength and Conditioning Coach Luke Boyd conducting clinics, leadership sessions and visiting local communities.

After playing in the loss to Sydney on Friday night and ahead of the bye this weekend, Hawthorn utility Shaun Burgoyne headed to the Northern Territory for community visits in Darwin and Katherine.

On Saturday morning Burgoyne, together with Strength and Conditioning Coach Luke Boyd and some Hawthorn staff boarded a plane bound for Darwin before heading straight to Kormilda College in Berrimah upon their arrival.

The group caught up with students from various communities who board at the College before Burgoyne and Boyd gave the students some tips on how to improve their footy along with an insight into what it’s like to be a professional footballer and to be involved in a professional football club.

On Sunday, they were off on a plane again in the morning to head to Katherine, where the group will be spending the next three days interacting with students, locals and also Big River Hawks players.

Late on Sunday afternoon, the group headed to the Katherine Showgrounds for a skills and development session with the Big River Football League’s U/16 and U/18 players.
