Growing up on a farm with his family, Ben McEvoy is a country boy at heart. McEvoy played his junior football at Dederang-Mt Beauty Football club in the Tallangatta & District Football League.
The ruckman grew up on a 130 hectare cattle farm and despite heading to the city to chase his football dream, he has a property near Stawell that he regularly visits and plans to live post-footy.
As a teenager McEvoy was invited to play with TAC cup team the Murray Bushrangers, a team he later went on to captain.
McEvoy was drafted by St Kilda with pick no.9 in the 2007 AFL Draft, and was traded to the Hawks during the 2013 trade period.
Since being traded McEvoy has been a solid contributor fort the Hawks and was a member of the Hawks 2014 premiership side.

What Junior club did you play for?
Dederang/Mt Beauty Bombers.
Who was your role model growing up?
I was a North Melbourne supporter and wore Mick Martyn’s number four.
Do you keep in touch with any of your former junior club teammates?
Yes, I recently had a couple of them at my wedding.
What other sports did you play?
Tennis, Cricket, Swimming, Running.
Do you have a favourite memory from junior footy?
2003 U14 Premiership at Dederang.
