JARRYD Roughead expects to know the outcome of tests relating to the melanoma removed from his lip by early next week.
The 28-year-old had surgery on his bottom lip last week and missed Hawthorn’s match against Collingwood.
GM – Football Operations Chris Fagan said Roughead had been in good spirits.
“He was in at the club yesterday for the day and did a little bit of training with the boys,” Fagan said.
“Today he’s got a few tests to get through, which we won’t know the results of until either Friday or Monday – probably more than likely Monday.
“We’re hopeful all those will be all clear, but we can’t be 100% sure of that, so we’ll just wait and see.
“It was good to have him around yesterday, and he was down at Box Hill at the (VFL) game on Saturday afternoon, so that gave everyone a lift - albeit he had a lot of stitches in his bottom lip.
“That’ll be the issue if he does get the all clear in regards to the melanoma, just how long it will take for that wound to heal up.”
Fagan said fellow key position player James Frawley was progressing well in his recovery from a shoulder injury.
“He’s got full range of movement, pain-free in that shoulder and is starting to lift a few weights again,” he said.
“I think the plan is that he’ll start to join in some training this week – I’m sure he won’t be okay for this week, but we’ll see how he goes in the weeks after that.”
Isaac Smith will be available to play Fremantle, after receiving stitches under his eye after a collision with Collingwood forward Travis Cloke’s boot on Friday night.
At VFL level, Jed Anderson and Brendan Whitecross both missed the Box Hill Hawks’ win against Frankston on Saturday with injury.
“Jed has just had a couple of issues with his back, which we think will clear up in the next week or two, and Whitey’s shoulder got a bit banged up in the (VFL) game against Collingwood (last week),” Fagan said.
“He (Whitey) was still a bit sore last week - it’s touch and go whether he’ll be right to play this week.”
