AN EQUAL career-high six-goal haul from Jack Gunston on Friday night helped him become the third Hawk this season to reach 200 career goals.
Gunston’s efforts helped the Hawks to a 138-point win over Carlton, the club’s biggest ever win against the Blues.
The 23-year-old joins fellow forwards Luke Breust and Cyril Rioli as Hawks to reach the 200-goal milestone this year.
Breust now has 211 goals from 107 games, after passing 200 goals against Collingwood in Round 14, while Rioli, who passed 200 against Sydney Swans last week, currently has 203 goals from 148 games.
Gunston’s sixth and final goal against the Blues – a set shot in the final term – helped him reach 200 goals in just his 95th game, at a rate of more than two goals per game.
He was surprised to find out post-game he had reached the double century.
“It’s obviously nice, and it’s good to be on the end of a lot of the midfield supply, which is pretty good here at the Hawks,” Gunston said.
The six-goal haul takes Gunston to a total of 37 from his 16 games this season.
He said the team’s performance against the Blues – their eighth consecutive win this season and 12th win in a row against the Blues – had been impressive.
“We want to perform every week, and we want to play four quarter footy,” Gunston said.
“No matter what the score is, you don’t want to drop your guard and get into bad habits, so it was good that we could keep the form going.”
The Hawks will have a seven-day break, before facing fellow top-four contender Richmond this week.
“It’s going to be a great game, and we’re looking forward to a Friday night blockbuster,” Gunston said.
