RUCKMAN Ben McEvoy believes Hawthorn’s loss to Richmond a fortnight ago has hardened the resolve of the team.
The Hawks have now enjoyed back-to-back wins against tough opponents in West Coast Eagles and Geelong, and are building form with three rounds of the home-and-away season remaining before finals.
After the win against the Cats, McEvoy said he believed the Hawks were on the right track.
“We obviously just weren’t up to scratch against Richmond a few weeks ago – we’ve come to play hard, tough footy over the last couple of weeks,” he said after Saturday night’s game against Geelong.
“I think we’ve just hardened our resolve a little bit.
“That’s what we’re about and if we can keep bringing that, I think we’ll be a pretty good chance most weeks.”
The 26-year-old now has six consecutive games behind him and is happy with how he is travelling.
“I’ve had six games back now and I’ve been pretty happy with my form,” McEvoy said.
“More importantly, we’ve mostly been winning, and we’re starting to play some really good footy at the right end of the year.”
McEvoy was again a strong contributor for the Hawks on Saturday night, winning 32 hit-outs and 15 disposals.
“We started really well, and then they probably got the game back on their terms a little bit,” he said.
“We stuck it out and finished really strong, so it was a good result.”
