The Hawthorn Football Club today announced a special partnership with the Indigenous Literacy Foundation at Darwin City Library.
The Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) is a national charity that aims to raise children’s literacy levels in remote Aboriginal & Torres Strait Island communities.
The partnership, which is proudly supported by the Epic Good Foundation, will enable early literacy resources to be delivered to remote communities.
Hawthorn Football Club has purchased 29 sets of early literacy books which will be donated to the Milikapiti School on Melville Island.
A group of five-year-old students and their teachers will be present at the event to receive the much needed resources.
This donation will contribute to the ILF’s aim of gifting over 45,000 books through its free book supply program which goes to more than 200 remote communities.
“It is great to see the students of these remote communities receiving some much needed resources,” said Hawthorn CEO Stuart Fox.
“The Indigenous Literacy Foundation is doing a fantastic job of improving literacy levels throughout remote communities and we are proud to be a part of such a worthy cause,” he said.
ILF also aims to deliver its early literacy program Book Buzz to 35 communities and organisations.
In May ILF will bring a team of its ambassadors to Melville Island to deliver a writing and reading reading workship and launch a community book called Tiwi Girl.
The Epic Good Foundation is a key partner of Hawthorn’s Indigenous Program and will be working with the ILF with other fundraising events in 2016.
