The Rundown
In typically difficult Tasmanian conditions, both the Hawks and Blues were forced to battle hard for any scoreboard recognition as any score was hard to come by early.
Windy conditions meant inaccuracy in front of goal was rife, as there were only three goals out of 19 scoring shots between the two sides for the first half.
The game’s quality improved in the third term as Hawks doubled their one goal halftime lead at the final change.
The last quarter continued in much the same vein, as the Hawks were able to create their ascendancy through punishing the Blues for their turnovers. With the final margin being 19 points in the Hawks favour, the Hawks extended their winning streak in Tasmania to 19.
The Star
Shaun Burgoyne was a standout in the closing phases of the game, finishing with 25 disposals and a goal. When pushed into the midfield, Burgoyne arguably had his greatest influence where he was able to add five inside 50s as well as five tackles.

The Moment
With the Blues threatening an upset and behind by only two goals halfway through the final quarter, a Hawk goal was required to extend the margin to a more comfortable gap. The ball entered Hawthorn’s forward 50 and, off-the-boot, it had Jonathan Ceglar’s name on it. The 204cm ruckman took a strong contested mark and, just as impressively, calmly went back and slotted the 50-metre set shot.
The Coach
“It was a pretty tough game. We were pleased to get the victory. We had a pretty young side…so we got a good opportunity to give those guys more footy”.- Alastair Clarkson
