With Hawthorn claiming the one-point victory over Geelong in Round 2, we thought we would take a look at the club’s history in matches decided by a single point.

● The Hawks have had 13 one-point wins in their history and 18 one-point losses
● After their Easter Monday clash, Geelong became the stand-alone most common victim of a Hawthorn one-point victory
● Geelong have also beaten the Hawks by one point on two occasions, making the five games in which the two sides have been separated by a point the highest amount of any rivalry
● Melbourne, Richmond and the Western Bulldogs have all beaten the Hawks by a point on three occasions, but the Hawks are yet to defeat the Dogs or the Tigers by the same margin
● Of the five sides that joined the AFL from 1995 onwards, Fremantle, Port Adelaide, Brisbane, Gold Coast and GWS, Brisbane is the only team to have played a game with Hawthorn decided by a single point
● Before Monday’s result, the Hawks’ most recent one-point win was over Collingwood in Round 23, 2016. This game is now remembered for former Hawk Jack Fitzpatrick's inspiring last minute goal from the centre square
● The most recent one-point loss dates back to Round 17 2009 against Geelong. It was the two sides’ second encounter since the 2008 Grand Final.
● In the 2004 season, the Hawks suffered two one-point losses. To make matters worse, these heartbreaks were separated by only three weeks, in Round 6 against Richmond and Round 9 against Sydney.
