While Hawthorn has started the season with a perfect record, the other big headline to emerge so far in 2018 has been the lavish hairstyles of two particular Hawks.
Triple premiership defender Ben Stratton and young teammate Blake Hardwick have sported some not-so-subtle mullets since the pre-season, with Stratton revealing to Triple M on Tuesday morning the heavily intricate and calculated thinking behind it.
“I just started growing one,” Stratton confessed.
“(I) always thought I wanted a mullet for at least a year in my life and this is the year.”
As for his teammate, Stratton said it was a case of 'follow the leader', but the bad news for admirers of the ‘business at the front, party at the back’ ideology is that the party’s only going until the end of the season.
“Blake Hardwick sort of jumped on board and I was happy with that,” Stratton said.
“(But) hopefully I’ll get through the winter and then it’ll come off at the end of the year.”
The pair have revived a long lineage of Hawks to sport the iconic hairstyle of the 80s, with the likes of Dermott Brereton, Gary Ayres and Jason Dunstall amongst those to have best rocked the ‘do’ during the peak-mullet period.
