Former Hawthorn player Terry Wallace has tonight been inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame.
Wallace, affectionately known as ‘Plough’, played 174 games with the Hawks between 1978 and 1986, a tenure that saw three premierships (1978, ’83, ’86), two All Australian selections (’82, ’83) and two club best and fairest awards (’81, ’83).
One of the greatest centremen of his era, Wallace established himself amongst fans as a gutsy midfielder who displayed great courage on the field.
Following his career at the Hawks, he had stints at both Richmond and Footscray where he played a total of 80 games across five seasons, earning himself another two club best and fairest awards (1988 and 1989).

Beyond his career as a player, Wallace became the senior coach of the Western Bulldogs between 1996-2002, where he took the team from crisis to a regular finals contender.
Ironically, 10 years after being selected as a player in the 1988 All-Australian team, Wallace was later appointed coach of the All-Australian team in 1998.
Following his success at the Bulldogs, Wallace sought to explore a new aspect of his career where he soon became a media commentator with Fox Footy, the Herald Sun and 3AW.
A credit to his excellent ability to analyse and explain the modern game of AFL, he later returned to a senior coaching role in 2005, this time at the Richmond Football Club for five seasons.
As a well-respected player, coach and media commentator amongst the AFL community, Hawthorn Football Club extends their congratulations to Terry for his outstanding achievements.
