Three Hawks have been named in the 2018 All-Australian 40-man squad.

Tom Mitchell and Luke Breust are a chance to add to their selections from 2017 and 2014 respectively, while Jack Gunston is in a prime position to receive his maiden All Australian Guernsey.

After being named ruck rover in the 2017 line up, Tom Mitchell has enjoyed another stellar season that has seen him lead the league in disposals (786) and clearances (173). He is currently one of the favourites to take out the 2018 Brownlow Medal.

Luke Breust has also enjoyed a career-best season, booting his equal-most goals for a home and away season with 53 – the most of any small forward this year – and registering a top five finish in the Coleman Medal.

One of the most composed players for the Hawks in 2018, Jack Gunston solidified his status as Hawthorn’s swingman, performing important roles all over the ground throughout the season.

This is the fourth time Gunston has been named in the 40-man All Australian squad, however he is yet to make it into the final 22. 2018 could be his year, after the 26-year-old finished the season with 48 goals, while also bettering his career-best average for contested possessions (6.33) and one percenters (2.62).

The 2018 All Australian 22-man team will be revealed this Wednesday night, the 29th of August.
