Season summary:
Connor Downie was first named in the side for the Hawks' season opener against Essendon, but was unused as the medical sub.
A product of Hawthorn's Next Generation Academy, the 185cm talent, who was taken with Pick 35 in the 2020 AFL Draft, has shown standout traits with his kicking penetration and run-and-carry.
The exciting young defender received another opportunity to play on the big stage in Round 22.
Even though it was technically the 19-year-old's second AFL game, it was his first time playing on the field.
An exciting young player with plenty of upside, Downie will be looking for more opportunities in 2022.
Best AFL game:
Downie’s best game came in Round 22 against the Western Bulldogs when he got his first taste of AFL footy on the field, finishing with 12 disposals and two marks, running at 100 per cent efficiency.
How the fans saw him:
Excellent first game Connor. And looks like you will come through with a great young group of team mates. A bright Hawks future.
