From Tom Mitchell chatting statistics, to Ben McEvoy sharing his thoughts on the bounce rules, Hawthorn players were back across all different media platforms this week.
Did you miss them? We've got you covered with our weekly recap!
Tom Mitchell – Triple M
Speaking to Triple M on Sunday, Mitchell highlighted the strength of the forward line as his side reached its biggest score since 2018 when it beat Port Adelaide last Sunday.
“It was a pretty special night and its always tough to win over in Adelaide, the boys played well and came away with a really good win,” Mitchell said.
“We had unique stats, to have that many entries and that many goals. Our forward line is pretty potent, with Luke Breust and Jack Gunston back in the side.
“Mitch Lewis had probably his best career game. When everyone's up and going it’s a very decent forward line.”
After a terrible leg injury back in 2018, Mitchell says he is feeling stronger than ever.
“It took me a few years to feel myself again but I feel 100 per cent. My leg is fully recovered and I am covering the ground a lot better,” Mitchell said.
“It was a severe injury so to be back playing is great. I am definitely capable of getting back to my best.”
Harry Morrisson – RSN
Morrisson said while he didn’t expect a 10-goal win over Port, he and his young teammates entered the game with confidence.
“There was a lot of positive reinforcement, but lid on and enjoy it the get back to work," Morrison told RSN Breakfast Club.
The 23-year-old said his teammates have adapted well to the new coaching style of Sam Mitchell, and have enjoyed the return of some key cogs.
“Sam encourages everyone to play to their strengths, which is giving the young guys plenty of confidence,” Morrisson said.
“We really missed Jack Gunston last year and you can see the impact he has early this season.
“Kicking it to someone like Gunston gives you real confidence he is going to get the job done.
“James Sicily has such a great ability to win the ball back and marking in the air, he hasn’t missed a beat since the season started."
James Worpel – AFL Nation
Worpel joined Sam Hargreaves and Mick Barlow on AFL Nation and shared an insight into the new feel around the club under Mitchell.
“We are a young and fit side and Sam really backs us in. He just wants us to drive, take some ground and play to our strengths,” Worpel said.
“Sam keeps it simple; we are all still learning but we are playing a more territory game.”
While the club has gone through many changes, Worpel said his teammates have embraced the new opportunities.
“Sam has always made it clear he wants to be honest and upfront,” Worpel said.
“He has nurtured me into the footballer I am today. He wants me to get back to my roots and strengths.
“Robert Harvey has also really influenced the club and we are loving the freshness of the side.”
Ben McEvoy - SEN
McEvoy chatted with Gary and Tim on SEN on Tuesday after his first match back for the season.
“Coming back after missing round one, I was really impressed how calm and organised everyone was. We have some old heads on young shoulders,” McEvoy said.
“Having a young group like we have got, it's really pleasing to get some reward and build up belief early in the year.”
With the bounce rules up in the air, McEvoy also expressed his appreciation for the random part of the game.
“I love the bounce. I appreciate that its challenging for the umpires but I think it’s a magnificent part of our game,” McEvoy said.
“When the ball is bounced you have to be good a reacting and adjusting on the fly. When it's a throw up in roughly the same spot every time that always goes to the advantage of a certain type of ruckman.”
