Hawthorn Coach Sam Mitchell says his players are committed to driving a better collective result.
Speaking to the media this week, Mitchell said the typical roles of some players have changed as his side continues to evolve.
“It’s not about individuals as much as it’s about the collective,” Mitchell said.
“They’re (the players) are all very brought into that sort of thing. We saw our current captain (Jaeger O’Meara) playing a defensive role on Patrick Cripps on the weekend.
“We’re continuing to evolve and make progress in our team, we’re still a developing team that is looking to get better each week.
"They’re very committed in what we’re trying to do."
Mitchell recognized that while improvement in the midfield was needed to be made, other areas were performing strongly.
“We’re not getting great stoppage numbers from our midfield, but our transition running and our work rate has been really strong," Mitchell said.
“But we don’t want to lose our defensive running, which has held us in really good stead. I think we’re second at stopping turnover scores, so we know that’s part of the game which is really important.”
