Hawthorn Coach Sam Mitchell said his side was simply outworked in its 69-point loss to St Kilda on Sunday.

After a promising start to the season, the Hawks delivered what was clearly their most lacklustre performance of the season to date against a rampaging Saints outfit. 

"We couldn't withstand their pressure today," Mitchell said.

"Every week is 120 minutes of learning for us and we've had some strong periods of time across the season and then we've had some where we'd like to have been stronger.

"I think for the vast majority of today we were not to the standard that we're striving for."
