Box Hill produced a solid victory over North Melbourne in wet and windy conditions on Sunday, securing a sixth win out of seven outings for the 2022 season so far.

James Worpel and Finn Maginness were two of the standout performers on the day, racking up 30 and 35 disposals, respectively.

Hawthorn Development Coach Andy Otten has reviewed each senior-listed Hawk that featured in the big win.

Finn Maginness (35 disposals, 1 goal, 7 marks, 4 clearances)

"In his first VFL game of the year, Finn had 35 touches playing on the wing all day. He played at an AFL-standard, he was tough in the contest, clean around the ball in what was wet and slippery conditions. He really shone for us, he had a really great game."

James Worpel (30 disposals, 5 tackles, 13 clearances)

"Worps had his second game with us and was outstanding with 30 possessions, including 12 clearances. We challenged him to get to work around the stoppages and he really showed us this week when he’s focussed on that - with his fast feet and agility in the stoppages - he can get to work. He had a massive influence on the game. Him and Finn were both two standouts."

Josh Morris (21 disposas, 4 marks, 5 tackles)

"Tank had another really solid game, he has been super consistent in every game he has played for Box Hill. His high-level performance, intent and aggression, and strength in the contest has been a consistent trend for him all year. So hopefully he keeps knocking down the door of an AFL game this year."

James Blanck (15 disposals)

"It was Blancky’s first game as a Hawthorn-listed player, but obviously he has been playing for Box Hill all this year. He had a really solid game, looked really assertive back in the defence, strong with his spoils and decision making. He positioned himself really strongly all day. Him and Tank were a brick wall back there, only allowing four goals for the day."

Jackson Callow (10 disposals, 1 goal, 5 tackles, 5 marks)

"Callow had limited game time in the first half, and then the second half he came to life. He probably struggled a bit when we were going with the breeze, but going into the breeze he took a couple of really nice and strong contested marks. He was looking dangerous when we went to him and he had five tackles as well so his follow up work on the ground was a real asset this week."

Jack Saunders (11 disposals, 1 goal)

"Saundo is still improving for us each week. He was playing out on the wing, and it wasn’t quite a 'wingers day' but he was still able to contribute and play his role for the team. He had a really nice crumb and goal, as well as providing some really nice balance for us around the contest. Anytime he got the ball, he started to really take off and drive and use his lightening speed."

Denver Grainger-Barras (11 disposals)

"It was Denver’s first game in the VFL this year, I think in the first half it took him a while to adapt to the game, the conditions and style of play. To his standards, he wasn’t quite there in the first half. But in the second half he really came to his own, got back to basics of beating his man and impacting the contest that way. His second half was much better and we’ll look to build on that second half and continue that form."

Connor Downie (12 disposals)

"Connor started the game really well playing on the wing and in half back role for us. In the middle of the game he went a bit quiet, but then finished the game really strongly for us with a couple of nice left foot long kicks, which is what he’s about."

Jai Serong (9 disposals, 1 goal)

"Jai was probably a bit quiet this week and down on his standards. He probably struggled with conditions, with reading the ball and the breeze. Playing as a key forward, he and Callow together were probably not quite reading it the way they would’ve liked in the air. He’ll look to bounce this week."

Fionn O’Hara (5 disposals)

"Fionn played his third game, he’s still very young in his football journey. He’s playing as a defender for us and is just looking to get the basics right - defending his man, reading the game and keep learning these little tricks and intricacies of AFL to help him progress as a player, but he’s playing as expected for us."
