The Hawks will welcome another first-gamer to the field in Launceston this Saturday, with youngster Jai Serong set to make his AFL debut against Gold Coast.

The 19-year-old Serong joined Hawthorn with Pick 53 in the 2021 national draft, boasting an impressive work rate and strong ability overhead.

Serong has impressed for Box Hill across 13 games this year, averaging 11.9 disposals and 3.7 marks per game, along with booting nine goals.

In Box Hill’s most recent game he recorded 21 disposals, which was his best for the season so far.

Head of Football Rob McCartney said he was thrilled for Serong to get his chance in the senior side.

"Jai has shown great hard work and dedication since arriving at the club late last year," McCartney said.

“He has an eagerness to learn and a strongly competitive nature, which have been on display throughout his first season at the club.

“We’ve been really pleased with Jai’s development so far this year, and we’re excited for him to play his role on Saturday.

"This also rounds out an impressive milestone for the club, with all four of our 2021 national draftees having earned senior selection in their first year at the top level."

Serong will be Hawthorn’s sixth debutant in 2022, joining Josh Ward, Connor Macdonald, Jackson Callow, Sam Butler and James Blanck in pulling on the brown and gold for the first time.

The remainder of Hawthorn’s team to take on the Suns this Saturday will be announced on Thursday at 6.20pm at www.hawthornfc.com.au
