Hawthorn’s historic Round 1 AFLW blockbuster against Essendon is a step closer to being moved to Marvel Stadium with all public tickets officially sold out.
Seats for the current fixture at North Port Oval on Saturday 27 August have only been up for grabs since Wednesday, making it one of the fastest-selling AFLW matches in recent memory.
Pressure has been mounting on league officials to shift the clash to the indoor Docklands venue since the mouth-watering match-up was revealed, which will kick off Hawthorn’s inaugural AFLW season.
Hawthorn CEO Justin Reeves said the move to Marvel Stadium is a no-brainer, particularly with the venue remaining available for the scheduled clash.
“Our members and fans have snapped up all available tickets and sent a clear message they want this match moved to a first-class stadium,” Reeves said.
“We want our women’s team playing in front of big, passionate brown and gold crowds in the elite stadiums across the country.
“All Hawkers deserve the opportunity to witness this history-making moment, and we urge the AFL to make this happen by moving the match to Marvel Stadium.”
