Hawthorn will be hoping to cause an upset to the Western Bulldogs this Sunday when they meet for their Round 23 clash at UTAS Stadium.

The Hawks will play their final game of the season, while the ninth-placed Dogs will be doing all they can to bound into the finals.

It will also mark an historic moment as veteran and beloved Hawthorn captain Ben McEvoy hangs up his boots after the match.

Fans will be able to show their appreciation for Big Boy's integrity, courage and inspirational leadership for the last time.

Irishman Conor Nash will also be celebrating his 50th career game.

Last time we met

Western Bulldogs (125) defeated Hawthorn (83) – Round 15, 2022

The Western Bulldogs booted 13 goals in a row to steamroll a fast-starting Hawthorn on its way to a comfortable 42-point victory at Marvel Stadium.

The Dogs shook off another slow start to get out to a 47-point margin in the last on the back of dominance in the centre clearances, before coasting to the final siren.

Hawthorn could have gone into its shell in the fourth quarter, but instead finally broke the Dogs' run of 13 goals and continued to play with dare out of defence.

Jack Scrimshaw stood up under enormous pressure for Hawthorn, taking 12 marks to go with his 26 disposals, while James Worpel (25 and seven clearances) battled hard against one of the deepest midfields in the competition.

Our last game

Richmond (128) defeated Hawthorn (67)

Richmond flexed its muscle to confirm a finals spot with a 61-point win of Hawthorn at the MCG on Sunday.

Lynch kicked four of his eight in a remarkable third-quarter display from the Tigers, who piled on 9.2 from 13 inside 50s to pull away for a 20.8 (128) to 9.13 (67) victory.

The reality is Richmond was always in control, led well around the ball by Dion Prestia, who had 30 disposals with a game-high 11 clearances and two goals, along with former skipper Trent Cotchin, who had 30 touches with a game-high 17 contested possessions.

Hawthorn had few winners for the day, although tagger Finn Maginness claimed another scalp, restricting Shai Bolton to 13 disposals.

Retiring captain Ben McEvoy, in his penultimate game, Jai Newcombe and makeshift midfielder James Sicily tried hard for the Hawks, while veteran forwards Jack Gunston and Luke Breust finished with two goals each.
