Butler’s injection into the Hawthorn attack gave fans plenty of reasons to be excited about the future.

After breaking through for his debut in Round 9, the first-year forward went on to play nine games and kick six goals.

Possessing a strong crumbing ability and great goal sense, the 19-year-old has all the traits to be a dangerous livewire the years ahead.

Butler produced his best performance for the year in just his second game at the top level when the Hawks edged out the Lions in Launceston in Round 10 in Launceston. Butler was dangerous in front of goal, booting two majors, while also collecting nine disposals.

How the coaches saw him:

“Butsy had a successful year where he was able to play numerous games, but he also understands how much growth and development is still to come to reach the real top echelon of small forwards. He has a real desire to chase and compete and his crumbing nous is very good for someone of his experience.
