Jasmine Fleming, Charlotte Baskaran and Lucy Wales continued their upward trajectory on Sunday despite Hawthorn going down to Richmond by 35 points.
Wales attended every centre bounce and finished with 20 hit-outs, 13 disposals and seven tackles. Her established opponent also finished with 20 hit-outs, demonstrating the evenness of the contest.
In an uplifting moment for the brown and gold faithful, Baskaran began the game by kicking her first AFLW goal. From there, she gathered 13 disposals and laid five tackles in an on-field role that continues to evolve.
In all three of her AFLW games, Fleming has recorded upwards of 10 disposals. On Sunday, she accumulated 12 disposals to go with three clearances and three inside 50s, ranking equal second for the most inside 50s on the ground.
Aileen Gilroy was the star of the show though with a team-high 17 disposals, game-high 12 tackles and 536 metres gained.
The Hawks will return home to Box Hill City Oval this weekend to host the Western Bulldogs on Saturday at 3.10pm AEST. The game will mark the second weekend of the AFLW’s Indigenous Round with the Hawks to again proudly don their Indigenous Guernsey, created in collaboration with popular Indigenous Australian art business, Miimi & Jiinda.
