Hawthorn midfielder Jasmine Fleming has been named a NAB AFL Women’s Rising Star nominee following a stellar performance in the Hawks’ win over Sydney on Friday night.
The 17-year-old Year 12 student gathered a team-high 16 possessions (10 of those contested) to go with 10 tackles, four clearances and 397 metres gained.
Fleming is having a brilliant debut season, averaging 15 disposals, 4.4 tackles and 2.8 inside 50s after just five AFLW games. This includes a career-high 25 disposals against the Western Bulldogs in Round 4.
After debuting in Round 1 against Essendon, she has gone on to play every game this season for the club she grew up supporting.
Hawthorn General Manager - Operations & AFLW Josh Vanderloo was delighted with the news.
“We’re thrilled to see Jas get recognised as a NAB Rising Star after an amazing Round 5 performance,” Vanderloo said.
“Jas has been a top performer for us each week despite being just five games into her AFLW career and balancing Year 12 studies on top of that.
“She’s a remarkable young player who continues to improve each week and we’re excited to see her continued growth in the colours she grew up wearing as a Hawthorn supporter.”
Fleming was drafted by Hawthorn with its first-ever draft pick (Pick 2) after representing Ashburton JFC, Oakleigh Chargers and Vic Metro at a junior level.
Her Hawks next take on the West Coast Eagles on Friday night at SkyBus Stadium, Frankston.
All AFLW players under the age of 21 on 31 December 2022 and who have not previously been nominated as a Rising Star qualify for consideration for the award.
Two players will be nominated each week of the NAB AFLW Competition. Each of the 20 NAB AFLW Rising Star nominees throughout the season will be awarded $500 prize money from NAB to acknowledge their great achievement. In addition, NAB will continue to support the development of future footy stars by awarding junior clubs of each nominee with a $1,000 cash NAB Club Recognition Award.
Jasmine Fleming's junior football club is Ashburton.
The overall NAB AFLW Rising Star winner will be awarded $20,000 from NAB and a private banker to assist with securing their financial future.
Celebrating 20 years in partnership with the AFL, NAB is proud to support the development of female footballers throughout the country from NAB AFL Auskick through to the NAB AFLW Competition.
