Hawthorn utility Tegan Cunningham and forward Zoe Barbakos have been added to the team’s injury list following their 13-point win over Port Adelaide at Frankston Oval on Saturday night.
Cunningham was a late withdrawal for the Round 7 clash due to an injury sustained in the warm-up, with forward Sarah Perkins replacing her in the side. AFLW High Performance Manager Olivia Knowles said Cunningham’s diagnosis was not yet known.
“Tegan sustained a foot injury during our warm-up on Saturday and will undergo scans this week to determine her treatment plan,” Knowles said.
Barbakos’ injury came during the week as she sustained a concussion at training. Knowles said the 18-year-old would be unavailable for Hawthorn’s Round 8 clash against GWS.
“Zoe unfortunately sustained a head knock during a drill at training last week, deeming her unavailable last weekend,” Knowles said.
“Her symptoms have improved and she has entered the 12-day concussion protocol but will remain unavailable this week.”
In better news, utility Louise Stephenson is progressing well in her rehab from an ankle injury.
“Lou is ticking all the right boxes at the moment, having commenced running and agility earlier this week,” Knowles said.
“We will build her volume and contact work in the next week with the aim to have her returning in the next couple of weeks.”
Knowles was also able to provide an update on forward/ ruck Tamara Luke, who remains on the sidelines for the rest of the season.
“Tamara has progressed through the post-operative recovery stage and will now look to build strength around her knee before commencing straight-line running in the next couple of months,” Knowles said.
Hawthorn will take on GWS on Sunday afternoon at Henson Park. The team will wear specially designed pride guernseys to honour AFLW Pride Round.
