Hawthorn will celebrate the anniversary of its 1983 premiership next month.
The Mighty Fighting Hawks Premiership Reunion will honour the 40th anniversary of the premiership and give fans the opportunity to hear stories from the greats who contributed to these pivotal moments in the club’s history.
Hawthorn’s 1983 premiership against the Bombers marked the club’s fifth premiership victory and the birth of the fierce rivalry between these two sides.
The 83-point win at the time was the biggest winning margin in grand final history, beating the record which had been set by Richmond in the 1980 VFL grand final, and stood until it was broken by Hawthorn in the 1988 VFL grand final.
This match was the first in what was to be an all-time record run of seven consecutive grand final appearances by the Hawks.
It was also the first of three consecutive grand finals to be contested between these teams, with the Bombers winning the 1984 and 1985 premierships.
The reunion will be held at Zinc in Federation Square on Saturday 18 March as a luncheon alongside several Hawthorn greats of the past to relive the key moment in the club’s history.
All Hawthorn members and supporters are invited to attend the event and honour the club’s premiership heroes of years past, with the option to choose from Bronze, Silver or Gold ticketing categories.
