Hawthorn AFLW forward Aine McDonagh is set to be sidelined for four to six weeks after breaking one of her ribs in Box Hill’s Round 1 VFLW clash against Essendon on Sunday.

The 24-year-old sustained the injury in the fourth quarter of the game and spent a period of time in hospital before being discharged that same day.

Hawthorn AFLW High Performance Manager Olivia Knowles acknowledged it was an unfortunate setback for McDonagh.

“While this is a disappointing outcome for Aine, she will be fully supported in her recovery,” Knowles said.

“All things going well, we anticipate that she will be available for VFLW selection towards the backend of the season.”
