Hawthorn Coach Sam Mitchell says he was left feeling "enormously disappointed" following his side's close loss to Richmond at the MCG on Saturday.
After leading for most of the match following an impressive first half, the Hawks lost control in the last term with the Tigers snatching a one-point win in the final minute.
Speaking post-game, Mitchell said some critical mistakes were made in key moments that let the momentum swing Richmond’s way after the third quarter break.
“I’m sure there are positives out of that game, but I can't find any yet,” Mitchell said.
“I’m enormously dispositioned to give up a lead after playing so well for so long.
“To not be able to retain it is apart of our learning, we’re all looking in the mirror wondering what we could’ve done differently.”
Mitchell added that there were some learnings for his young side to take away from the game.
“The more close games we play, the better we’ll get at them,” he said.
“As we develop our group we’re going to get better at dealing with those moments.
“Some players stood up, some have some learning to do.
“I think we need to start holding ourselves to a higher standard the further we go.
“Today we proved our best footy is pretty good, but if we don’t have the mentality needed at key moments we’re going to fall away badly and get run down.”
