Hawthorn Football Club would like to congratulate Lance Franklin on an outstanding career after the dual premiership Hawk announced his retirement on Monday.
Taken by Hawthorn with Pick 5 in the 2004 national draft, the champion forward went on to play 182 games in the brown and gold and became a vital figure in one of the club's most successful eras.
He booted 580 goals during his time with the club - the fifth most of all-time - and achieved four of his eight All Australian selections.
Franklin was also honoured as Hawthorn's Peter Crimmins Medallist in the club's premiership year of 2008.
Following his ninth campaign and second premiership with the Hawks in 2013, Franklin joined Sydney via free agency.
He went on to play 172 games with the Swans across 10 seasons, where he kicked another 486 goals, including his 1000th last year.
Known for his raking left boot and freakish athleticism, Franklin is highly regarded as one of the best players of the modern era.
He finishes his career with a list of achievements rarely matched by others that have gone before him as a dual premiership player, eight-time All Australian, four-time Coleman Medallist, and will finish fourth overall on the all-time goal kicking list with 1066 career goals.
Franklin is also a seven-time leading goal kicker for the Swans and a six-time Hawthorn leading goal kicker.
The club would like to thank Franklin for his incredible contribution to our great game and many lasting memories cherished by the brown and gold faithful.
