Ballarat product Kaitlyn Ashmore is excited to play an AFLW game in her hometown for the first time.

Across her eight seasons in the competition so far, the 31-year-old is yet to play in front of her Ballarat family and friends at Mars Stadium. 

That drought finally ends on Sunday and Ashmore couldn't be more excited about it.

"I've wanted to play in Ballarat ever since the Bulldogs had that connection," Ashmore said.

"Every time we lined up against the Bulldogs, I was hoping we were going to be there.

"Growing up, I would kick the footy with Dad on the lawn so I've always wanted to play a professional game there."

Adding to the joy will be the East Point Dragons Football Club, who will form a guard of honour to welcome out Ashmore and the team at Mars Stadium for Sunday's clash. 

Ashmore hoped more kids from the region, like those playing with the Dragons, would take up footy in the future.

"Coming from a regional area, women's footy wasn't really a big thing back then," she said.

"You know girls want to play and now, they get to see us play.

"I'm really excited to see what happens with our future. 

"Girls are starting to pick footy first and that's really exciting for us."
