Hawthorn midfielder Tamara Smith is in line to return from a shoulder injury for her team’s clash with Fremantle on Saturday afternoon.

Smith sustained the injury in the Hawks’ Round 1 loss to Essendon and missed the team’s Round 2 victory against the Western Bulldogs, also due to suspension.

Hawthorn AFLW High Performance Manager Olivia Knowles said Smith was progressing well in her recovery.

“Her shoulder has settled really nicely so we’ll test her and increase her contact work at training this week,” Knowles said.

“She’ll be a test and hopefully be available.”

Tegan Cunningham is still four to five weeks away from a return due to a hamstring injury, but Knowles said she is tracking well in her rehabilitation.

“She’ll increase her speed at training over the week,” Knowles said.

“We’ll do some strength testing this week as well.”

Young forward Zoe Barbakos has been added to the injury list due to a concussion she sustained at training.

Knowles confirmed that the 19-year-old has entered concussion protocols.

“She sustained a concussion just during an incident at training during the week so she’s entered the 12-day protocol,” Knowles said.

“It’ll be at least a week before she’s ready to return to play.”
