Despite Hawthorn’s 11-point loss against Richmond on Friday night, Hawks fans would’ve liked what they saw from some passages of play.
Whether it was Bridie Hipwell’s contested mark, Jasmine Fleming’s pinpoint kicking or Aileen Gilroy’s solo, fans at Cazalys Stadium were treated to a glimpse of Hawthorn’s future.
Although never content with a loss, Hawthorn coach Bec Goddard was fairly optimistic post-game.
“If you’re a Hawks fan, you would’ve seen some really exciting moments tonight,” she said.
“The ball spent a lot of time in our forward half.
“Keep getting excited if you’re a Hawks fan, we are coming, we’re growing, we’re getting better, and we’ve still got another couple of games to play this season.”
Goddard also acknowledged Greta Bodey’s 50-game milestone, which she was lucky enough to play in front of family and friends in Cairns.
“It was fantastic to have so many people from the Cairns community here to see Greta play her 50th game,” Goddard said.
“Not the result that Greta wanted but glad we got to see her do her thing on her home deck.”
Coming off back-to-back interstate games, the Hawks will welcome a nine-day break and a return to Kinetic Stadium for their Round 9 clash with Port Adelaide.
Goddard said she looked forward to the occasion.
“Back at Frankston next week and looking forward to playing Port Adelaide, another expansion team, and testing where we’re at against another really quality opponent,” she said.
“We’re definitely looking at a full four quarters – it’s been an issue for us all season really.”
Tickets for Sunday’s game are $10, with kids able to enter for free.
