Changkuoth Jiath has locked away his future with the Hawks, putting pen to paper on a contract extension to keep him in the brown and gold until at least the end of 2027.
The three-year deal comes off the back of a strong second half of the season from the dynamic 25-year-old, with Jiath reminding the football world of his rare attributes as an explosive running utility.
Since arriving at the club as a Next Generation Academy selection during the 2018 rookie draft, Jiath’s highlights reel is as impressive as any across his 56-game career to date.
National Recruiting and List Manager Mark McKenzie said Jiath’s re-signing was another important piece locked in place as the club continues its climb back up the ladder.
“Having just passed 50 games earlier this year, we firmly believe Changkuoth’s best footy is ahead of him, and we’re excited about what he can deliver for our footy club in this next phase of his career,” McKenzie said.
“Changkuoth obviously possesses a special skillset, but what often goes unnoticed is the hard work that he’s had to put in around the continuity of his body at the top level, which we’ve seen the benefits of in the back half this year.
“Changkuoth’s ceiling remains incredibly high, and I’m sure the Hawthorn faithful are thrilled that he will be continuing his damaging run and dash for the brown and gold into the future.”
Jiath’s signature comes just weeks after in-demand pair Conor Nash and Blake Hardwick turned their backs on free agency to also commit their futures to the club.
