Hawthorn Senior Coach Daniel Webster said he was pleased with the team’s efforts in their Week 4 clash, taking a 57-point victory over the Saints at RSEA Park.

After an even first term, the Hawks took the reins and powered home to get back on the winner’s list and sit 3-1 for 2024.

Webster spoke on the key factors in the game as well as what’s to come with mid-week footy.

We summarised the key points below.

On the game

“I think the biggest thing for us was just our run and being able to move the ball around the ground, I don’t think we challenged Adelaide enough last week in that facet and it became a contested game on their terms. So I was pleased today we were able to get the game on our terms nice and early and run the game out really strongly so that was pleasing.”

Taking on Geelong

“They’re a very good side, I was there firsthand in the prelim final last year and saw how good they can be so it’s going to be a great challenge for us."

On mid-week footy

“Mid-week footy is exciting, getting a first look at that and it’s obviously now about recovery so we’ll get started on that straight away. I think the reality is in this compressed fixture schedule you can’t do much to change in this period so it’s about getting the players feeling good and hopefully going out there and being able to run games out and perform.

“It’s such a challenge, we’ve been planning for this for a while around what it looks like, and we’ll have personnel changes, I think like most teams through this period because it’s just difficult to get up after four, five days for a lot of players.

“It’s presented a good opportunity for us, if we can manage it well and keep the players fresh as best we can, then hopefully we can perform and have some good results over the next couple of weeks.”
