Hawthorn has secured another key piece of its future, with athletic big man Max Ramsden putting pen to paper on a one-year contract extension which will keep him at the club until at least the end of 2026.

The 2022 mid-season draftee is capable of playing as a ruck or forward, having highlighted his promise and versatility through his five AFL games to date.

The 21-year-old has also been steadily developing in his 14 Box Hill appearances this season, kicking 12 goals for the year while averaging 16.6 hit-outs, 13 disposals and 4.2 marks.

Having ran a 6.04 2km time trial in his draft year, Ramsden’s elite running has been evident ever since with his endurance one of his many strengths as an emerging tall.

Hawthorn National List and Recruiting Manager Mark McKenzie said Ramsden’s contract extension was a great opportunity to continue his development at the Hawks.

“This contract extension is a great opportunity to recognise Max’s hard work and desire to continue to develop his craft,” McKenzie said.

“As a longer-term prospect for the club, Max’s future is looking bright, having already shown traits of athleticism, endurance and versatility since arriving at the club via the 2022 mid-season draft.

“We see him forming a valuable part of our future so it’s fantastic to have him buy into the exciting direction we’re heading in as a club.”
