Hawthorn has won the 2024 McClelland Trophy after finishing as the best-performing club across the AFL and AFLW seasons.

Points are awarded based on home-and-away wins within a calendar year, with four points awarded for each victory in the men’s competition, and eight points awarded for each win in the women’s competition (taking into account the shorter season), with the champion club awarded $1 million in prize money.

Hawthorn’s AFLW side secured a second-place finish to finish the home-and-away season on Sunday while the Hawks’ AFL side finished seventh at the conclusion of their season.

The Hawks finished on a combined 136 points to win the McClelland Trophy, with 80 points in the AFLW and 56 in the AFL.

Hawthorn Chief Executive Officer Ash Klein recognised the whole-of-club effort involved in winning the award.

“This is a proud achievement for our football club, highlighting the strong alignment across both football programs as well as our Board and administration,” Klein said.

“On the field, our men’s and women’s teams have enjoyed outstanding seasons, with our AFL side back in the finals series and now our AFLW team who have secured a finals berth and top-two finish for the first time in our club’s history.

“As we know, this would not be possible without the loyal support of the Hawthorn faithful throughout our AFL and AFLW seasons and we thank them for their ongoing commitment.”

Hawthorn commences its inaugural AFLW finals campaign next week, with details to be confirmed on Sunday night.
