Hawthorn has celebrated two representatives in the 2024 AFLW All Australian team, with Aileen Gilroy and Tilly Lucas-Rodd each earning their maiden selection.
The pair are also the first Hawthorn players to be named in an All Australian team in the club’s short history.
Selected in their dominant positions for the Hawks, Gilroy sits at half-forward, while Lucas-Rodd is positioned at half-back.
Lucas-Rodd was named in the All-Australian squad in 2022 (Season 7), but this marks their first time in the team.
The 28-year-old played all possible games in 2024, a stand-out in their new role off half-back, averaging 21 disposals, six intercept possessions, five rebound 50s and five tackles per game. They also ranked fifth in kicks (185) and 13th in disposals (264) across the league.
Selected at Pick 99 in the 2016 draft, Lucas-Rodd made their debut with Carlton in Round 1 of 2017. Throughout their seven-year career, they’ve played 76 games across three clubs.
Gilroy’s shift into the forward line this season saw her take her game to the next level. Through a flurry of long-range goals and entertaining celebrations to match, she established herself as one of the best forwards in the competition.
The 31-year-old Irishwoman slotted 14 goals from her 11 home-and-away season games she played, finishing fifth overall on the league leaderboard. She was also equal-sixth in score involvements across the competition
The opening round of the 2020 season saw Gilroy debut for North Melbourne, after being drafted as a rookie in 2019. She’s since played 61 games across the two clubs.
General Manager of Football Operations Max Bailey said Gilroy and Lucas-Rodd’s selection in the team was well deserved.
"Aileen and Tilly thoroughly deserve their maiden All Australian blazers, this is no doubt a very special moment for them both," Bailey said.
“To be recognised for their incredible individual seasons and named among the elite players of the competition is a testament to the consistency of performances across 2024.
“Tilly was a potent offensive weapon in our backend this season, always leading by example, they are a player who delivers what is expected of them week in week out.
“Aileen is a force to be reckoned with, she elevated her game in all aspects this season and is an ever-reliable member of our team.
“As Hawthorn’s first ever AFLW All Australian representatives, this a history-making feat, and we're so proud of them both.”
