We’ve asked Physical Performance Manager Luke Boyd to nominate five players that have impressed him over the course of the pre-season.

Some are yet to debut, others have had multiple visits to the top of the game’s mountain, all have a point to prove when it comes to a pre-season campaign.

For young players, pre-seasons are all about impressions – making a name for yourself through hard work and application.

Physical Performance Manager Luke Boyd said James Worpel made a resounding impression with a decision he made only a month into his first off-season.

“Worps started his off-season training three weeks before anyone else last year,” Boyd said.

“He just took it upon himself to start training early because he knew he had a few areas he had to work on that he could make a good start on.”

Eyeing an increase in midfield time in 2019, Worpel has made his intentions clear.

“The key focus for Worps this summer has been to get his bodyweight down and improve his running ability,” Boyd said.

“He’s managed to do that to great effect and we’re seeing him cover the ground a lot better.”

“The other thing about Worps is that he is a super professional kid and a very mature 19-year-old - the way he goes about his footy both on and off the field is very, very professional for a bloke who is so young.”
