The Hawks are going from, historically speaking, their best venue in the country last week to their worst in Round 11.

Of the eight active AFL venues that the Hawks have played more than three games at, UTAS Stadium ranks as a clear favourite for Hawthorn with its win over Port Adelaide on Saturday increasing the club’s winning percentage to 78.2 per cent from 62 matches.

It’s a remarkable record of longevity across a relationship between the club and Tasmania that has spanned 19 seasons.

But following the Hawks’ victory, their fifth of the year, the side now turns its attention to taking on a dangerous Brisbane Lions outfit at the Gabba.

Read: Stats outstanding

In five games at the Gabba so far this year, the Lions have won four, overcoming the likes of West Coast, Port, Adelaide and Sydney and dropping one to Collingwood.

But perhaps even more alarming as the Hawks prepare for their travel north is their own record at the venue.

Of its 19 appearances dating back to 1981 when the club took on Essendon there as an effort by the VFL to develop the code interstate, Hawthorn has won just six times, including winning just two of its last 10 at the Brisbane ground.

This week marks a challenge for Alastair Clarkson’s side but one they have proven this year to be more than capable of overcoming.

The Hawks have won all three of their interstate travels so far in 2019, including a rousing win over Adelaide in the season opener.
