Hawthorn faces the daunting task of taking on Sydney at the SCG in a last-ditch attempt to save its season this Friday night.
After a 1-6 start to the year, the Swans have begun to turn their fortunes around, winning three of their last five.
Their two losses in that period came at the hands of premiership contenders Geelong and Collingwood, who they challenged for four quarters.
But, despite losing three of their last four games, the Hawks are entitled to their own level of confidence this weekend.
Based on recent form, the SCG is Hawthorn’s favourite venue in the country.
Across its last five visits to the SCG, Hawthorn has emerged with the four points on each occasion, making it the only active ground in the country where it holds a winning streak of more than two games.
In fact, the Hawks haven’t won five games in a row at a venue since 2016 when a 19-win streak at UTAS Stadium ended.
This SCG streak of success hasn’t come easy for the Hawks though, with each of their past four wins all single-digit margins.
There is no question that this Friday night’s clash poses as a massive challenge for Alastair Clarkson’s side, but if you are the one that believes in the merit of history then an upset may be brewing.
