Jarryd Roughead says he will be doing everything he can to reclaim a place in the senior side this year.
Roughead has not played at AFL level since Round 7, but says he remains hopeful of adding to his 281 senior games for the Hawks.
“I’m backing myself in (to play senior football again),” Roughead said on AFL 360 on Tuesday night.
“I got dropped at Round 7, if I packed up my bags then and cracked the sads and said, ‘No, I’m out’, I don’t think that looks good for Hawthorn or myself.
“Knowing that there was still 15, 16 weeks of the year to go, I’m going to try and fight to get back in.”
But Roughead said it wasn't the be all and end all to him if he was to miss out on another AFL game.
The 32-year-old instead has a commendable perspective on this matter.
“Everyone asks are you angry or are you sad? We’ve had our careers. I feel more sad for someone like Paddy McCartin going through what he is going through,” he said.
“Now us, as a footy collective, have been robbed of seeing a No. 1 draft pick go at it. When you put it into perspective like that, us playing VFL for half a year doesn’t really matter.”
