Hawthorn Coach Alastair Clarkson said consistent form with Box Hill has led to Jarryd Roughead's return to the senior side ahead of Friday night's clash against Sydney.
Roughead will make his first senior appearance since Round 7, having played five games at the state league level since then.
"He has had a block of games now at VFL level where he has really contributed," Clarkson said.
"It was never our intention to write his career off four or five weeks ago when he went out of the side but he knew he had to do some things in his game to give him the best chance to contribute at senior level.
"We feel like he has done that."
Clarkson said the four-time premiership forward comes into the side with a specific role, brought about by the side's inability to spot up a target last week.
"Last week, we went inside 50 in the first quarter 19 times and we couldn't take a mark.
"So, he gets his chance tomorrow night."
