Hawthorn’s VFLW side has come away with a solid 25-point win over the Western Bulldogs on Saturday, fighting through wet and windy conditions at the VU Whitten Oval.

The windy conditions meant that the Geelong Road end of the ground was where all the action happened.

Hawthorn were able to keep control of the game in all four quarters despite this fact and finished with 13 scoring shots to the Bulldogs three.

The Hawks snapped up the momentum from the first bounce but struggled to get the ball through the middles sticks, scoring five consecutive behinds.

The first goal of the day went to Pip Peschke half way through the first term, after some quick hands from Nicki Cormack.

Within minutes, the Hawks went back-to-back as Rosie Dillon ran into goals to score the second major of the day.

Hawthorn lead by 18 points at the first break, having kept the Dogs scoreless for the quarter.

The home side were unable to match the pressure of the Hawks and despite kicking with the wind in the second term, were only able to manage one goal and one behind, leaving the visitors with a 10-point lead at half time.

The third term saw the Hawks once again make good use of the scoring end, Sarah Perkins demonstrating her experience up forward with an impressive mark followed by a superbly kicked set shot.

With this momentum, Phoebe McWilliams then booted a huge kick from just inside 50, the wind carrying it through for the six points.

McWilliams’ goal was the last of the day, with neither side able to overcome the fierce weather in the last quarter, setting the scores at 4.9 (33) to 1.2 (8).

The Hawks head back home for next week’s Grand Final rematch against Geelong at 11:30am, July 6th, Box Hill City Oval.
