Our Round 15 match against the Eagles was a nail-biter.
It wasn’t until the 31st minute of the fourth quarter that the Eagles kicked the winning goal that decided the game.
Until that Cripps snap on goal, scores were level.
Things were reasonably even when it came to the statistics as well.
When the final siren sounded the two sides had the same number of inside 50s (54) and marks inside 50 (seven).
In fact, the Hawks had a greater scoring efficiency inside 50 (48%) compared to the Eagles (44%).
However, there was one glaring difference that determined the outcome of the game and it’s one of the oldest clichés in footy.
At the end of the day you’ve got to make the most of your opportunities and the Eagles were more accurate when it came to scoring.
Of the 22 times the Eagles scored on the weekend, half of those scores were goals.
The Eagles kicked 11 goals, five behinds and six rushed behinds.
The Hawks on the other hand kicked nine goals, 13 behinds and three rushed behinds and one touched.
The Hawks kicked eight more behinds than their opponents and seven separate players contributed to this tally.
Goal kicking practice is sure to be on the agenda at training this week.
