Hawthorn’s VFLW side has put on a dominant display to defeat top four side Melbourne University by 23 points on Sunday.

After trailing by eight points at half time, the Hawks came out and produced a six-goal third quarter that ultimately helped them seal their win at 12.3 (75) to 8.4 (52).

Melbourne University came out firing, Jasmine Garner scoring a goal within seconds of the first bounce. Sarah Perkins responded quickly kicking the first of the Hawks’ goals, which was the beginning of what was an influential performance from the forward, registering two more majors and being named best on ground.

It was back and forth play for the rest of the first half, both sides demonstrating a high level of skill and precision in front of goals.

The Mugars had an eight-point lead at half time but Hawthorn showed their ability to fight back and had one of their most impressive quarters all season with goals from Perkins, Luke, Beeson and a jaw dropping score from Flanagan who slotted one from the left pocket.

At the final break the Hawks had kicked 11 goals, a scoring accuracy they haven’t achieved all season. The Mugars were unable to fight their way back in the last term and Hawthorn ran away with the win.

The win for the Hawks has bumped them up into fifth position on the ladder with only three rounds left before finals. They will next face Casey Demons at Box Hill City Oval on Saturday the 10th of August at 1:00pm.
