Warnie from The Traders, AFL.com.au’s NAB AFL Fantasy experts, will be taking a look at the Hawks each week exclusive to hawthornfc.com.au.
Last week
The Hawks couldn’t pull off the win in a blistering second half, however it wasn’t all bad on the Fantasy scoreboard. The new captain of choice of coaches, Jordan Lewis (MID, $656,000) finished the game strongly with a 51 point final term to take his score to 119. Lewis is highest averaging Fantasy player after two rounds.
While Josh Gibson missed through general soreness, stepping into defence, Grant Birchall (DEF, $464,000) reached his breakeven of 88 in his first game of the season.
On the overall Fantasy scoreboard, the Hawks went down to the Bombers 1547 to 1806.
Top 5 scorers v Essendon
1. 119 - Jordan Lewis (MID $656,000)
2. 112 - Jack Gunston (FWD, $457,000)
3. 111 - Luke Hodge (DEF/MID $567,000)
4. 94 - Matt Suckling (DEF, $435,000)
5. 88 - Grant Birchall (DEF, $464,000)
On the radar
Avoiding the vest, Jed Anderson (MID, $203,000) increased $20K off the back of his 61 points while first gamer, James Sicily (FWD, $128,000) came into the game early due to James Frawley’s injury. Sicily scored 39 points from 64% game time and if named this week, he could be an option to downgrade an underperforming bench forward to make a few dollars.
Josh Gibson (DEF, $457,000) missed Sunday’s game but is named to play this week. I’m a little worried that his Fantasy game could be affected while Frawley sits on the sidelines. In round one, Gibson scored 110 playing a Fantasy friendly role running out of the backline and linking up for a few marks. Frawley being out may change this.
What's coming up
The Hawks travel to their home away from home, Aurora Stadium in Launceston. The club’s second Tassie home ground is one of the highest Fantasy scoring venues in the country.
Jordan Lewis will be a sound captain choice once again, projected to score 115. Last time the two sides played, coincidently in Launceston in round 19 last year, the midfielder scored 102 from 26 disposals. Jarryd Roughead (FWD, $492,000) kicked six goals and 106 points. Sam Mitchell (DEF, $518,000) returns to the team this week and he enjoys playing in Launceston, averaging 89.5 points. Brendon Whitecross (DEF, $258,000) comes into the squad of 25 and if he plays, keep an eye on his fantasy scores as he comes in as a cheap defender option in Fantasy.
