Cyril Rioli has been voted as the Hawks’ best by the coaches, in their nail biting Round 8 loss to the Sydney Swans.
Meeting for the first time since they faced off in last year’s Grand Final, the Hawks were 12 points in front after Rioli goaled mid-way through the final term, before the Swans stormed back to steal a four-point win.
Two goals and five inside 50’s, along with his relentless pressure, earned Rioli four votes from Alastair Clarkson and John Longmire, while Sam Mitchell was right behind with three.
Mitchell was outstanding for the reigning premiers, racking up 32 disposals and eight clearances despite a heavy tag from former-teammate, Ben McGlynn.
James Frawley was also awarded two votes after he kept former Hawk, Lance Franklin, scoreless.
Swan Dan Hannebury scored a perfect 10 from the two coaches for his 36 disposal, best-on-ground performace, with fellow midfielder Luke Parker also recognised for his efforts with six votes.
Sydney pair Sam Reid and Jarrad McVeigh completed the coaches votes, scoring three and two respectively.
